Garbage in-Garbage out, is a well known axiom. Changing the technology platform will serve no real purpose if the data on which the new application operates remains incomplete. If customer data is incorrect or missing or if there are inconsistencies in the data, these problems will get carried over to the new system. A thorough exercise in cleaning-up the data and migrating it, is therefore as critical as getting the application right.
